Some traffic information for our holiday release

Southwestern Ohio

U.S. Route 22 and State Route 3, Hamilton and Warren counties
Widening of Montgomery Rd. (U.S. 22 and SR 3) from Cornell Rd. to Appleseed Rd. in Hamilton County to increase capacity and improve safety. One lane of traffic in each direction is being maintained. Work is suspended over the holiday weekend. Completion date: fall 2008.

U.S. Route 50, Hamilton County
Widening of U.S. 50 from just east of the Mariemont east corporation line to just east of Newton Rd. The work includes widening the existing pavement for a center turn lane, and lengthening the right turn lane approaching Newton Rd. One lane of traffic in each direction is being maintained. While the permanent work zone restrictions remain in place, work is suspended over the weekend, and there will be no additional lane closures. Completion date: May. 31, 2008.

State Route 73, Clinton County
To accommodate construction of the Wilmington Bypass, SR 73 is closed just southeast of the intersection with Airport Rd. until May 8, 2008. Traffic is not permitted to turn right from Airport Rd. onto SR 73. Detour is posted. Completion date: fall 2010.

Interstate 275, Hamilton County
Rehabilitation of the roadway, pavement and 28 bridge structures on I-275 from just east of Winton Rd. to just east of U.S. 42. Work includes adding a fourth lane in both directions, widening the eastbound and westbound on and off ramps to Mosteller Rd., and replacing the bridge decks on the Chesterdale and U.S. 42 overpasses. One lane of two-way traffic is maintained by a temporary traffic signal over the Chesterdale Road overpass. During peak travel hours, three lanes of traffic on I-275 maintained in each direction. To maintain these three lanes, ODOT is shifting one lane of eastbound traffic onto the westbound side of I-275 to create an express lane through the work zone (from SR 4 to USR 42). Tractor trailers are prohibited in this lane, and there are no exits until the lane joins with mainline I-275 (at USR 42). While the permanent work zone restrictions remain in place, work is suspended over the holidays with no additional lane closures. Completion date: fall 2010.

Also, ODOT has just gone live with www.BuckeyeTraffic.org - The new BuckeyeTraffic system allows the viewer to check on winter road conditions (from November to April) and road activity (accident, flooding, construction, etc.) throughout Ohio. With the BuckeyeTraffic system, you can also switch between road and aerial views, 3D, 2D or view a combination of both (hybrid view). This is just a quick guide, but with more use you will find there are many other options and features than what I mention here.

BuckeyeTraffic uses color-coded, diamond shaped icons and labels to represent various types of road activity. The color of the icon indicates the status of the road (Open - green, Restricted - yellow or Closed - red). The label inside the icon indicates the type of road activity (A - accident, D - debris, V - disabled vehicle, F - flooding, R - roadwork/construction, S - snow/ice or O - other). Don't worry, all of this will be on the screen!

To view road activity:

1. Pan and zoom the map to the area you wish to view, or use the Region drop-down box in the Travel Status menu.

2. In Travel Status, click the box for the road activity you wish to display (accident, flooding, construction, etc.). To select or de-select ALL road activities, click the check box next to the Road Activity item.

3. Click the Apply Filters button. The system displays a Please Wait screen while it loads the road activity items, then displays the road activity icons on the map. Position the mouse over a specific icon to display a pop-up message describing that road activity. Left click on a road activity icon to display full details about the road activity.

To view winter road conditions within a particular region or area:

1. Pan and zoom the map to the area you wish to view, or use the Region drop-down box in the Travel Status menu.

2. In Travel Status, click the box for Winter Conditions then click the Apply Filters button. The map displays a Please Wait message as it loads the winter road conditions, then displays the road condition icons in the map. Position the mouse over a specific icon to display a pop up message containing detailed information about that site.
